OUR OIL

TENUTA SECOLO IX

Our Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Tenuta Secolo IX grows and trains 650 olive trees in multiple plots of land, sloping down and covering the whole farm area, from the steep hill of Coste San Felice up to the highlands of Contrada da Vicenne.
As the tradition has it, the steepest and highest plots house century-old olive trees and ancient native varieties. The mid-altitude plots are planted with olive trees older than a decade, with a mix of native, ancient and non-ancient varieties, while the valley groves were planted more recently, introducing more ubiquitous varietals, albeit of proven premium quality.

Varietals

Our main source of production comes from ancient and well-acclimated varietals that have always existed in this area, such as the Pollice cultivar, a local name for the Toccolana cultivar, which is the queen of the Casauria area, and the Intosso cultivar, a dual-purpose variety very common in the foothill areas of Abruzzo due to its high resistance to cold. Later additions firstly involved the Gentile cultivar as the main varietal, the undisputed bearer of fine taste and aroma, and then a small percentage of Leccino cultivar, which in this area conveys intense fruity notes even on late harvests. Finally, we introduced the Peranzana cultivar, which gives its best in the foothill areas of Central and Southern Italy to bring exceptional aromas and improve the blends in which it is used.

Our Oil

Products

Tenuta Secolo IX really wanted to expand the range of varietals grown on the farm as it considered its oil to be a puzzle made up of pieces that are all different but perfectly shaped, complementary and functional to delivering an image of high prestige and strong identity. Each olive varietal on our farm provides premium oil with a distinctive personality, where the ingredients of the final blend engage in the ancient game of mutual fulfillment. The end result is a multifaceted, yet balanced product which is consistent over the years and represents a well-defined and hardly replicable kaleidoscope of flavors
